Hello awesome friends and visitors!
Today’s teacher tech tip Tuesday focuses on virtual field trips! Now I know virtual field trips have been around for years, even before the COVID-19 pandemic happened. However, I want to share a list of specific virtual field trips that I’ve enjoyed with my students. Try some of them out with your students if appropriate! 🙂
I am a huge fan of field trips but unfortunately, there are many factors that could get in the way. For example, budget concerns and lack of chaperones. Therefore, virtual field trips provide students with an immense benefit because they can still see how a place is like without leaving the classroom. Also, you can ask students to keep a journal of virtual field trips or even have them create a presentation online about their favorite place.
- “Top 10 Disney World Rides” from TPMvids (Youtube): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ME5WJoHCaFU My students absolutely love seeing the rides from Disney World since many of them never went before! I’ve used this virtual field trip before when my students had to create an informative writing about a place they want to go to. They always ask me to write down the link so they can watch it at home. I am a huge Disney fan so I always put a virtual field trip to Disney as my #1!
- San Diego Zoo with Live Cams: https://zoo.sandiegozoo.org/live-cameras I love using the live cams at this zoo! My students are always so amazed that everything is happen in real-time! This virtual field trip is amazing for studying habitats and animal behaviors for science lessons.
- Amazon’s Future Engineer: https://www.amazonfutureengineer.com/fctours You can browse through the teacher toolkit and free resources or you can host a tour on Kahoot! Kahoot! is great because it makes learning into a gaming format and students love that activity so much! You can also book a class chat with an Amazon engineer in real-time, especially if your students are studying computer science education. Even if your students are not studying CS, they can still enjoy a lovely class chat and jot down interesting questions to ask the engineer (like an interview)!
- Google Arts & Culture: https://artsandculture.google.com/ You can use Google Arts & Culture’s website to view exhibits and museums online. There are also games to go along with the virtual tours. However, I would recommend this website for older students (preferably 5th grade and above). I’ve tried this with my 5th graders a few years ago to learn about art history and it was a great success!
Hope you enjoyed these 4 options! There are so many more virtual field trips online but these are my absolute all-time favorites!
xoxo,
Kelly
