Hello awesome friends!
Today’s teacher tech tip Tuesday is about free coding websites for your students! As a cohort member of CS4all, I know that computer science education is super beneficial for students. Computer science education helps students develop their computational thinking and problem solving skills, along with connecting the concepts of computer science to other subject areas. Therefore, I’ve decided to complied a list of free coding websites for your students!
- https://www.scratchjr.org/ – I love Scratch Jr.! It ties into developing the students’ animation and storytelling skills. I use Scratch Jr. as a way for my students to learn coding skills and publish their final writing pieces. This works well with students with special and language needs because of the visuals and easy to follow steps.
- https://code.org/ – Code.org has free lesson plans and activities for students from grades K-12. There is also a short and simple hour of the code activity that gets your students’ feet wet with coding.
- https://www.codemonkey.com – Although I do not have much experience with Code Monkey, I’ve heard many great reviews about it! There are many games on this website for students (particularly in elementary school) to play so that they learn coding skills.
- https://www.tynker.com/ – Tynker is an awesome program that has personalized instruction for students to learn coding! There are also games and lessons for students to follow along. However, the only downside I can think of right now is that Tynker has only a limited free trial (unless it changes).
- https://projects.raspberrypi.org/ – Raspberry Pi has many guided lessons and activities that focuses on BOTH the hardware and software components of a computer. You can also learn web design and the programming language called Python on this website.
I hope you enjoy this list of free coding websites! There are definitely more resources out there and I will be updating this list when I find more awesome websites for coding! 🙂
xoxo,
Kelly
